<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It's that time of year where I ask myself why I don't get paid to forecast the weather because I'd probably be just as good at it.

Currently, the state of WI - and apparently the whole Midwest - is under a winter storm warning of blizzard proportions.

My first thought - yeah right!

Then, at about 8am when I got woke up for a delivery, the weathermen were getting redeemed as I saw huge flakes of snow start to fall. I was still tired and feeling pretty good - as in very little pain for the first time in weeks - I decided I would head back to bed because I was still tired and figured I wouldn't be able to do the stuff I wanted to do anyway. So I went back to bed for a couple of hours.

By the time I woke up at noon, the snow stopped falling, and what little there was had been blown in other places. We got a light dusting, a half-inch or less. For it being 6:15pm Central time zone, it's still pretty light out, considering.

The sky looks gray, and while cold, I didn't get the feeling of air thick with water. What I felt when I stepped outside just now is that there is a storm coming, but whether it actually dumps snow is another story.

I have my doubts because my bones stopped aching. If they were still aching, I could rationalize the pain to the coming storm, but because the majority of pain has actually left my body, I'm inclined to think that the storm will lose a lot of its bluster by the time it does hit us.

That doesn't mean other areas won't get snow. I'm just stating that, with the way my bones feel right now, I believe that the storm won't be as strong as they're predicting. At least in my area.

It is humorous because some of the local stations were saying that it was going to start by mid day and that people should leave work at noon to beat the storm. My husband left work and came home at the normal time. He asked, "Where's the snow?"

We'll see. Maybe the snow is still in the sky. Maybe this is just another windy storm that doesn't come with snow. Who knows? The weather forecasters sure don't.
Carriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13328970869069471833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3183387126884211495.post-54589065151125175652010-03-09T13:54:00.001-06:002011-01-31T18:01:45.623-06:00From the Weather Deck in Oak Creek, WisconsinHey there! It's been awhile since I've posted, but I've been too busy laughing at how wrong the weather people can be! I don't like to brag, but I can be more accurate than these guys.

For example, last Thursday, they said it would rain on Sunday and the percentage was something like 70%. I told my owners that it would not rain, as 10 days is too far in advance to predict the movement of anything around here. Sure enough, the percentage kept getting lower and lower. It never did end up raining that day. In fact, it never smelled of rain.

It may not be that bright out here today, but it is nice and warm out here and the snow is just going to keep on melting! Should remain decent enough tonight. I don't smell any rain currently, so I think we might be in the clear for tonight. I haven't been to other areas of the state, so I can't speak for them. Where I am, even though it's cloudy with a chance of sun, it looks as though we're going to stay rain-free. I'd say dry, but there's so much snow melting that it won't be dry in places.

Of course, they weather people are saying it's supposed to rain all week - we'll see about that. I'm somewhat skeptical about that....
On Deck for tomorrow: Pictures and the answer to, "Do I smell rain in the air?"Carriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13328970869069471833noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3183387126884211495.post-22246134337531393002010-02-13T13:53:00.001-06:002010-02-13T13:59:36.398-06:00From the Weather Deck<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It's the Peanut Gallery here with today's weather report from our perch on the porch in Oak Creek, WI.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It's another bright and sunny day today. It's quite nice if you're out in the sun, and can be chilly if you're in the shade, but it's definitely warm enough to melt snow and ice! Even though you can't tell by this picture, we're no longer covered in snow!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It looks like a good day to disc golf, just watch for thin ice and developing water puddles because they could solidify later on when the sun goes down and it gets cold again!Carriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13328970869069471833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3183387126884211495.post-86283512797348238522010-02-12T16:57:00.001-06:002010-12-18T07:08:46.905-06:00From the Weather Deck<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Scarey here with today's weather update!

Happy to report that there were blue skies and warm weather out here today. Okay, warm compared to previous days. It was warm enough to melt the snow and the planter snow level has gone down some. The ice that was on the drive way and car has melted off and dried up for the most part.

Here's the last image of the planter at the end of the snowstorm:

And here's one from just now, at about 4:30pm on Friday, after the snowstorm:

If you look at the closest one only, you might try to argue that the loss of snow was due to salt, but if you look at all three, you'll see that there's been the same amount of snow loss around all three, and the farthest two didn't have any salty snow near them, which gives you proof that it was very warm here the past two days, with today being warmer than yesterday.

Of course, the night will still be chilly, but not quite as bad as it has been.

The Skeletal Barometer believes that the thaw process will start in about four weeks. Now we may experience some drops in temperature in that time, so be prepared.

How can I be sure? Well, the air felt crisp and clean as opposed to sharp and damp, a sign that spring is around the corner. Just remember, March is always said to go in like a Lion and out like a Lamb, and this will be the case this year.
Carriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13328970869069471833noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3183387126884211495.post-63312144324542136552010-02-10T01:10:00.001-06:002010-02-10T01:12:08.535-06:00First Edition
Welcome to the First Edition of
Skeletal Barometer!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The problem I have with all of the weather channel reports (especially the local ones) is that they are not current at all during the night.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">How do I know? Well, it shows that it is snowing where I am right now (1 am). I just opened the front door and looked out, and while it feels damp, it's not snowing. The snow appears to be done for the moment. In fact, at around 11pm, the pains I had been feeling seemed to have passed. If they return, then I'll know it'll be snowing again. We'll see.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I love it, in Vancouver where the Olympics are being held the expected temperature is 47 and rain! Here we are in Wisconsin with cold temps and lots and lots of snow! Guess we would have been the better location for Winter Olympics this year, huh? Not to mention the fact that we already have an Olympic size training facility for skaters - The Petit National Ice Center as well as a host of ski hills and stuff. Carriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13328970869069471833noreply@blogger.com0
